Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis & Parasitology

iStock_000011065575_ExtraSmallThe Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis and Parasitology (CDSA/P) provides an invaluable tool for evaluating the health of the gastrointestinal tract. This test is recommended in cases of gastrointestinal symptoms, as well as many systemic disorders that may originate in the gut.

Good health depends on the adequate digestion and assimilation of nutrients. Without proper digestion, even the most nutritious diet offers little help. Besides ensuring proper nutrient absorption, the gastrointestinal system has the challenging job of preventing toxic molecules from entering the body. Dysfunction in either area can lead to illness. Covering up gastrointestinal symptoms with antacids, laxatives, or anti-diarrheals only compounds the problem, and does nothing to get at the root imbalance. The CDSA/P provides clinicians with a comprehensive and noninvasive tool for evaluating the health of the digestive tract. This test helps pinpoint imbalances and explain current symptoms, as well as warn of potential future problems, should the imbalances progress.

Besides providing several markers for digestive and absorptive ability, the CDSA/P takes a close look at intestinal ecology, bacteria, yeast and parasites. Intestinal flora has a major impact on human health, particularly as the widespread use of antibiotics has been observed to disrupt the normal bacterial flora. Dysbiosis, a state of disordered microbial ecology, may contribute to vitamin B12 deficiency, irritable bowel syndrome, and inflammatory bowel disease, as well as systemic disorders such as food allergy, colon and breast cancer, various skin conditions, autoimmune rheumatic conditions, and chronic fatigue. Beneficial bacteria, such as Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria help prevent the development of dysbiosis. In order to help identify effective antimicrobial treatments, sensitivities are performed on potential pathogens, measuring sensitivity to pharmaceutical as well as some natural substances.

The most common symptoms of parasite infection are diarrhea and abdominal pain. Other symptoms may include flatulence, lack of appetite, weight loss, fever, chills, blood or mucus in the stool, and fatigue. An increasing number of parasite cases feature systemic complaints not traditionally associated with parasites, such as reactive arthritis. This test allows for accurate and increased detection through technologically advanced procedures.

Using the Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis and Parasitology, customized treatment can be easily applied. The optimal health of the gastrointestinal system leads directly to the optimal health of the body and mind.
